About Divine Dance

Divine Dance is primarily a spiritual practice which is grounded in the body; a body-based practice of self inquiry which employs the use of dance, movement-meditation, sound, rhythm and art. This multi-modal healing method has emerged out of many years of my own experience and study in the fields of dance, meditation and the creative/ healing arts.
Divine Dance began as a longing, and has evolved into a calling. A calling to create a safe and easily accessible space for allowing the body to sing its song, tell its story and dance its dance - authentically. There are no steps to follow, only the the rhythm and beat of your own heart and the mapping of your own feet. Every moment, every breath can lead you deeper into your own process and dance, you only need to begin the first step.
Divine Dance is not defined as classical “Dance Therapy”, as historically Dance Therapy has been defined as a form of psychotherapy which: “…anchors its method in the understanding of the structure and function of the human organism..” (Exiner & Kellynack).
Divine Dance, is something quite different. Whilst healing and therapy are certainly the underlying intention of the work, they are often by-products of the process rather than focused goal of the dance sessions.
Workshop, classes and dance events are foremost an invitation. An invitation to let go the mind and drop out of any previous experiences or judgements you hold about your own dance as well as any preconceived notions of various “movement therapies” that exist in the field.
In Divine Dance sessions you are invited to enter into a dance-conversation between yourself, your instincts and the healing energy. Engaging the intuition & creativity sparks a process of surrender and transformation. Sessions often involve a guided movement and dance-journey following seven stages of self inquiry.
As we embark on a journey of self-remembering, we begin to meet and reclaim our natural state. This practice of flow and presence allows us, over time, to tap into honest experiences and expressions of ecstatic joy, innocence, fun, grief and above all authenticity.
This practice is primarily about unveiling the hidden messages and stories held in our bodies and about giving permission to the body to speak its own wisdom. This invitation-to-the-dance is not only about surrendering the mind and crossing the threshold into the body’s domain - it is an invitation to enter the realm of the heart.
“When you’re not trying to make the heart into something you think is proper, it showers you with magic, and even in the midst of pain, it can offer moments of rapture”
- Thomas Moore
The power and delicacy of this work continues to humble me each time I dance. The body carries both our pain as well as our potential for healing. I am comforted and filled with gratitude for the body’s generous readiness to shine a light on the pathway towards its own remedial restoration. As we listen deeply, we learn the body’s innate desire to create health, harmony and balance within its own system. And we are empowered by the dance as we realize our own intuitive ability to do so!
This form of healing dance provides an instant kinesthetic platform on which to unveil and release… everything - as the dance is truly generous enough to hold it all. As we dance our way through our collective and individual stories we initiate the process of healing - both of ourselves and each other, restoring the balance of body, mind and spirit. The dance has been my greatest teacher, I am honoured and excited to share some of its teachings with you.
